Mood Disorders

Mood Disorders- Jennifer Lorey, LCSW, CEDS Boca RatonMood Disorders, also known as “affective disorders”, involve persistent feelings that can either fluctuate between extreme sadness to extreme happiness or feelings that remain pervasive and chronic without change. The most common mood disorders are depression, mania and Bipolar disorder. These are extremely individual and effect each client differently. I am not a psychiatrist, however I do work closely with a few whom I have developed a professional relationship with and who hold similar philosophical beliefs to my own. While I do believe in psycho-pharmological interventions, I also believe in my client’s right to self-determination. If a client is not ready or willing to take medications as part of his or her treatment plan, I am open to discussing alternative treatment approaches as long as the clinical integrity of the practice remains intact. Mood disorders are a serious and at times, dangerous diagnosis if not treated appropriately. It is imperative that each symptom is closely monitored and tracked so that the client is getting the best possible outcome they can.
